NFL Draft 2008 Recruits Some Africans

NFL Draft 2008 Recruits Several Africans

Well the NFL Draft was very exciting with lots of unexpected drafts and trades. My focus was on the Africans in the Draft. How many of them made it?

Jeff Otah - North Carolina Panthers Offensive Tackle

Jeff Otah was drafted as a starting offensive tackle in the first round by the North Carolina Panthers. He is expected to help strengthen and add more depth to the offensive line, and help improve their running game. Although he hasn’t played very long, he has made an impact in the short time that he’s been in the game.

Jeremy Zuttah - NFL Draft 2008

Jeremy Zuttah was picked in the third round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is the one who did a 40-yard dash in 4.99 seconds. Now that’s speed. He will be an offensive guard and Coach Jon Gruden seemed to like the fact that he can play tackle, guard, or center. His versatility, and high football IQ, make him a valuable asset to any team.

Xavier Adibi - Virginia Tech Hokies

Xavier Adibi is now a Houston Texan. Yes, he should do big things in Texas after being drafted in the fourth round. He is expected to start on special teams. He should also add backup depth at linebacker.

Frank Okam - 2008 NFL Draft Pick

Frank Okam is now a Houston Texan who will help round out the defensive line and add an explosive, intellectual component to their game. He was their fifth round pick and has been touted as one who may make a tremendous difference for the Texans, that he did for the Longhorns.

Kenny Iwebema - 2008 NFL Draft Pick

Kenny Iwebema joins the Arizona Cardinals as a Defensive End. He was drafted in the fourth round to help add some competition to the defensive lineup and help build great plays through competition between the players. He may end up being moved to a linebacker position. The Cardinals may play him heavily in their special teams.

So now we are up to 31……32….. African players in the NFL??? I love the fact that I am beginning to lose count of the number of Africans in the NFL! I am also proud of them for keeping up their grades while they played–that’s a true mark of excellence! Great job guys, and good luck in the pros.
