TNT’s “Inside the NBA” Crew to Put Best Feet Forward to Help Samaritan’s Feet

Turner Sports announced today that TNT’s Inside the NBA announcers will go barefoot on Mother’s Day, Sun., May 11, in an effort to raise awareness for Samaritan’s Feet, a charitable organization whose mission is to help outfit 10 million impoverished children worldwide with 10 million pairs of shoes in 10 years. Honor your mom by donating to Samaritan’s Feet as they try and raise $64,000 on Mother’s Day to help mom’s in Africa who struggle every day trying to feed and put shoes on her children.

Samaritan’s Feet founder Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme will join TNT announcers Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith during the show, which follows NBA Playoffs coverage of the New Orleans Hornets @ San Antonio Spurs at 8 p.m. ET. The segment will feature background information on Samaritan’s Feet as well as how to get involved and donate to the organization. Ernie Johnson was inspired to get involved with Samaritan’s Feet after Ron Hunter, the coach at IUPUI was nominated as person of the week for coaching a game in his bare feet to draw attention to the mission of Samaritan’s Feet.

Emmanuel Ohonme -Samaritan’s Feet

The vision for Samaritan’s Feet was conceived over 23 years ago on one hot summer afternoon at a camp in Lagos, Nigeria when a stranger from Wisconsin gave a 9-year old boy his first pair of tennis shoes. That boy was Emmanuel Ohonme who went on to compete in sports and do so well that he was offered a full basketball scholarship to a university.

He went on to work with a technology company but had a burning desire to help children in Africa who were still dealing with the ravages of war, poverty, drug abuse, diseases, and other hardships. He was also determined to help the children in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he now resides. He made a decision to leave the security of his job, and start Samaritan’s Feet with a goal of putting shoes on the feet of 10 million impoverished people in the next 10 years.
