William Kipsang ran away with the gold at the Rotterdam Marathon this weekend setting a new course record of 2:05:49. The previous record of 2:07:50 had been held by fellow Kenyan, Jimmy Muinde in April 2005.
Kenya had a strong showing, as if to emphasize their running prowess, with Daniel Rono coming in second, and Charles Kamathi coming in third. Kenyans have won the Rotterdam marathon for 10 years in a row.
This will be Kipsang’s second Dutch title (he won the Amsterdam Marathon in 2003). The Rotterdam Marathon is considered one of the world’s top ten marathon by Runners World magazine.
