World Cross Country Championships 2008

Kenenisa Bekele

Well, it looks like Ethiopia and Kenya are going to be the main attraction at the 2008 World Cross Country Championships. The championship will be fielding some heavyweights like defending champion, Zersenay Tardese (Eritrea), Kenenisa Bekele (Ethiopia), Sileshi Sihine (Ethiopia), Abebe Dinkesa (Ethiopia), Joseph Ebuya (Kenya), Gideon Gatunyi (Kenya) Grace Momanyi (Kenya), Doris beChangeywo (Kenya), and Linet Masai (Kenya).

Bekele is the World 5000m and 10,000m record holder and is a three-time World 10,000m champion, and a 2004 Olympic 10,000m gold medallist–arguably one of the greatest ever track runners. Tardese is the defending champion and will need to be on his toes to protect his crown. Ebuya is determined to win, and is no doubt bouyed by his great performance in Spain in November (he won the Spanish Cross International Valle de Llodio 9.2 km race in 27:05 and wond the 10 km cross country race in Soria in 28:58. In December he won a 10.1 km race in Alcobendas, Spain in 29:08).

Overall it should be quite competitive. The championship will be held in Edinburgh beginning March 30, 2008. For details visit the World Cross Country Championship website.
