hi again my friends,yesterday i didn’t realise that i was responding to the 2007 list-which was sorely disappointing-but i must say that 2008 is even worse.at least there were far more true natural AFRCAN BEAUTY in 2007 list but to be parading an arab an indian and eurocentric looking women with false hair as well as mixed race women as the ultimate in AFRICAN beauty is really and truly an insult to MOTHER AFRICA.you will never see a EUROPEAN magazine publish a list of that continent’s most beautiful women and include AFRICAN women or worse women of mixed race heritage.let us as AFRICAN men -as i am from the DIASPORA-start supporting and celebrating our true beautiful sisters who dare to be natural -no false hair or bleached out skin-as they truly represent all that is really beautifully AFRICAN.IN THE NAME OF MARCUS MOSIAH GARVEY I SALUTE TRUE AFRICAN BEAUTY!!!LOVE MAMA AFRICA!!!

To be honest I find this list (and the ones you have had in previous years) quite insulting. Yes these women are beautiful and African, but there’s the implication that only African women who gained recognition in the West make it on this list. Look at these statements;

“As a model she was the 2005 Nautica Jeans & Vibe Magazine National U.S. Model Search winner….”

“She has graced the covers of Vogue Magazine, Italian Vogue, American and British Elle, Amica, and Surface Magazine..”

Perhaps they are success in the West stems from the fact that their bodies are preferred those audiences. Sorry, but Adeola is not slim. She is horribly thin, in my view slim or lean is a size 6 (might even reluctantly accept 4).

What was with this comment?

“It is hard to believe that she is a mother of four. She carries herself with dignity and grace and always manages to look like she just stepped out of a dayspa after a day of pampering.”

Motherhood is a beautiful thing in Africa, and to imply that because one has dignity and grace is not motherly is an insult.

Hopefully one day we can learn to appreciate our own through own lenses and not only after they have gained the popularity of non-Africans.

This doesn’t mean that the beauty of the women on the list is not appreciated. Far from that …. I just think that your list was not inclusive or as diverse as the women on our beautiful continent.
