Kirette Couture shows off Summer 2009 collection.

African fashion met a worthy cause on Wednesday June 3rd at Boucarou Lounge in Soho, NY.

Kirette Couture shows off Summer 2009 collectionKirette Couture, a fashion line created by Cameroonian designers, Kibonen Nfi and Anrette Ngafor, united with Living Measure and GEMS to bring awareness to Youth Sexploitation.

Living Measure is a group of committed individuals who are dedicated to “utilizing their resourcesĀ  and connections to benefit under served communities and organizations, particularly for health, education and human rights reform, child advocacy and economic development”.

GEMS ,which stands for Girls Educational and Mentoring Service is an organization which provides counseling services and other services to women and girls aged 12-21 who have been victims of commercial sex exploitation and trafficking ,in order for them to improve their lives and achieve success.

While guests sipped cocktails and dined on specialties from the menu, they were treated to the sounds of Nde “Wax” Ndifonka, who is a Cameroonian musician based in South Africa. Wax sang two songs from his fourth and latest studio album called ‘The African Dream‘.

Kirette Couture then took to the stage as models walked the runway wearing outfits made for the African Luxe summer collection which “celebrates and portrays the luxury of Africa through color” as Kibonen Nfi said .

The use of color was definitely shown through the variety of designs which ranged fromĀ  electric blue to purple to bright orange.

When asked about plans for the future, Kibonen said “The future of Kirette Couture is bright. We plan to expand and continue to cater to our customers by providing them with affordable outfits which will still make them feel luxurious”.

Kirette Couture definitely seems to be causing people to take notice, as was seen from the number of people who showed up to support theKirette Couture shows off Summer 2009 collection show, including Cameroonian model David Nso who has modeled for Sean John and Gucci.

He helped the models perfect their runway walks before the show. The event was hosted by Sophy Aiida who is an entertainment host, model, actress and screenwriter based in New york.
