On May 20th 2009, 19 year old Ethiopian, Sara Nuru, was announced the winner of the wildly successful reality show that started in America and has now spread to Germany and Canada. The East African beauty beat 21,000 other applicants who auditioned for the show and was named winner at the end of the show that ran for three months.
Sara, who was born and raised in Munich, Germany by her Ethiopian-born parents was awarded a cover and spread in the German version of Cosmopolitan magazine, as well as contracts with Maybelline, Jade, and C and A. She also received a cash prize of 200,000 euros.
Sara stated ,“I can’t believe it – so often during the show I thought I would not make it.”
Heidi Klum, who hosts the show and who presented her with the prizes, gave a statement as to why Sara was chosen as the winner saying, ” We saw a special sparkle in Sara’s eye. She has a super body, a great character and presence-and is also nice!”
