Kate Techie Menson, winner of the 2008 Face of Africa modeling competition has declared her intention to become the next African
international supermodel. She agrees that apart from Oluchi, winner of the first edition of the competition, none of the other winners has been able to attain global recognition; and she hopes that she would be able to change all that.
“I am giving it my all and doing what I have to do. I know what I want to achieve and where I want to get to and that is on Oluchi’s level and even above or better. With dreams like that and the
determination and confidence it is possible to do it.”
The striking 23-year-old Ghanaian model has had quite a journey in the modeling and fashion world, working with some top Ghanaian fashion designers either for free, or for a next-to-nothing fee. Prior to winning the M-net Face of Africa contest, she had participated in ‘Top Model Ghana’ and even auditioned for the 2006 edition of the Face of Africa competition, where she was turned down because she didn’t fit the body measurement required for the contest. But with determination and hard work, she
forged on until finally winning the biggest prize in modeling on the African continent.
Kate sees her victory as a means to inspire and mentor others to become like her. “It means a lot because when you win such a competition, you become a mentor for other people; other aspiring models. It is a great feeling and it comes with some responsibilities.”
