BothDol Fashion: Cutting Edge Designs

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | August 27, 2009 | Leave a Comment

BothDol Fashions are very cutting edge designs that blend African couture with western flair.  The lines are fluid, the colors symbolic, and the results stunning.  Nyamal Both, the lady behind the designs is an unassuming lady with an elegant model look about her.  She models on the side, which might account for her ability to design clothes that are dripping off the models.

Dawn Okoro – Power

Written by Mary Nwosuocha | August 18, 2009 | Leave a Comment

I recently went to the Three Peas Art Lounge in Chicago to see Dawn Okoro’s exhibition entitled Power. According to gallery curator Maya Camille, the exhibition is about powerful yet feminine black women like the First Lady. It shows us what we are and what we are not.

The gallery itself was a small, intimate space with couches and chairs in the front and a bar displaying several different kinds of wines. The show was attended mostly by easy-going, black professionals chatting against the up-beat yet relaxing music playing smoothly through the overhead speakers. » Read more…

Written by Prudence Chauke | July 22, 2009 | Leave a Comment

From the moment I entered the “Park Room” which is the venue where the event was held, I couldn’t help but inhale the success waiting to happen as my eyes partook of the beauty that surrounded me. From the classiness and the boldness of the venue, to the diversity I noticed from those present who, like me, could barely wait for the moment of truth as the excitement of the show built up.

Elizabeth Ahmed Had Ray J Twisted

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | July 21, 2009 | Leave a Comment

For the folks who love reality television, you are going to love this contestant.  She has managed to get the forums spewing hate (must mean that she is drop-dead gorgeous), and is a transplant from Russia.  Born to a Russian mother and Nigerian father, she has been featured in several music videos, predominantly with R. Kelly, and has been in Motorsports Magazine, Jet Magazine, and Rolling Out Magazine.

She was on VH1’s reality series, ‘For The Love Of Ray-J‘ where she has managed to stay in the running for a long time against other girls vying for Ray J’s heart (and money).  She was abruptly eliminated when he found out that her photographer was also her manager and that she was on the show for exposure and a career boost. » Read more…
