Bertini Heumegni is a surprisingly humble model, actor and designer who seems to have his head in the right place.   Discovered in South Africa while working as a bouncer, he has gone on to become a highly sought-after model, personal trainer, designer and actor.

Born in Cameroon, he went to the University of Lagos and then moved to South Africa.  He lived in South Africa for seven years before moving to New York where he realized he needed to do more than just model.  He became a personal trainer.  He was picked to be on America’s Next Top Model where he stood out because of his hazel-green eyes.  Determined to bring his children to the U.S., he worked hard until he could afford to bring them over.  His twins, Danielle Heumegni and Patrick Heumegni finally joined him ( something he touts as his proudest accomplishment), and are doing well in college.

African Fashion Week showcases real African designers.

Written by Shirlene Brown | October 25, 2011 | Leave a Comment

It has always been a pet peeve that many of the African designs we are seeing pop up on international runways are designed by western designers.  It is even more disturbing that when magazines and newspapers want to showcase African designs, they talk to non-African designers who they quote as ‘experts’.  I always wonder if they couldn’t find one African designer to interview for an opinion.
