Wangechi Mutu is a Kenyan artist based in New York who specializes in painted and collage works of the female form. The art is vibrant and sometimes shocking. She uses various mediums to create a look and establish a mood and provides images that evoke strong emotions.

This talented artist has been featured a the Saachi Gallery, the Susanne Vielmetter Gallery in Los Angeles, California, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Miami Art Museum, Tate Modern in London, the Studio Museum in Harlem in New York, Kunstpalast Dusseldorf in Germany, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. She also participated in the Prospect 1 Biennial in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2008.

A world reknowned artist, she is popular with artists who want to take their art to a higher level. Touted as an artist who does not want people to put African art into a box, she has shattered stereotypes and pushed the boundaries to give us art that is on the cutting edge. She was recently featured in Vogue’s Shape Issue in March 2009 looking incredible in her pregnancy. We are sure to hear a lot more about this talented lady as the years go by.
