Oumou Sangare’s to release new album, ‘Seya’

Oumou Sangare, that great Malian singer, is scheduled to release her long awaited album, ‘Seya‘, on June 9 2009.  An extremely popular musician in Mali and the Diaspora, Sangare is arguably Mali’s most recognized musician, second only, perhaps to Salif Keita. Alicia Keys said, “Her voice is captivating; even though I can’t understand what she is saying, I understand what she’s saying.”

Weekend Buzz

Busy, busy, busy, is what this weekend has been. There were several artists in Africa lending their name to concerts and award shows. Eve and Wyclef were in Ghana, as was Mario.

Liya Kebede showed up at two benefits for a good cause. Edi Gathegi is riding high on the excitement that his new movie, “Twilight‘, is generating. He was also at the GQ ‘Men of the Year’ party. Flo Rida was in Abuja, Nigeria for the MTV Africa Music Awards. Several celebrities received their awards or performed, including, Wahu, Alicia Keys, D’Banj, Seun Kuti, Kelly Rowland, The Game, and Jay-Jay Okocha.
