Nelson Mandela Hitting Broadway
Well, a musical featuring the struggles of the celebrated leader is. According to AOL Black Voices, a Broadway musical will depict the legendary events taking place in South Africa during apartheid and the struggle for freedom from that oppressive system. Influential leaders of that movement, like Nelson Mandela, will be featured. The musical, set to hit Broadway in May 2010, will be based in part on a memoir by Nelson Mandela’s daughter Zindzi Mandela who will be working with Welcome Msomi.
Lights, Camera, Action: Liya Kebede
According to AOL Black Voices, Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede has been tapped to play Somali model Waris Dirie in Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey of a Desert Nomad, a film based on Dirie’s successful autobiography about her experience with female circumcision.
