She recently followed her African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) nod for best actress in a lead role with the City People Entertainment Award for best Actress in Ghana. The award which celebrates movies, music and comedy was held on July 18 at the 10 Degrees Event Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.

Rapper Sarkodie tops 2010 Ghana Music Awards

Ghana’s fastest rapper, Sarkodie made history at the 2010 Ghana Music Awards when he became the first artiste to ever win the Artiste of the Year nod with a debut album. The most outstanding artiste of the year also topped the ceremony with 4 other awards on a night filled with excitement, anxiety, rollicking performances and some surprises.View Gallery 

The star-studded event which was hosted by Chris Attoh and Doreen Andoh saw appearances by musicians, radio, sports, film and television personalities with a streak of star performances. Among those that performed were Wande Coal (Nigeria), Jozi (South Africa), Donaeo (UK), Sarkodie, Obrafour, 4×4, Tinny, VIP, Ohemea Mercy, Ruff and Smooth, Nana Boro, Efyah, Amakye Dede, Becca and Wutah.

The First Annual African Music Awards

Musically speaking, 2008 has been a year full of firsts; first it was the MTV African Music Awards, which was a big success, and, in a couple of weeks, live in London on December 27 2008, the African Music Awards (AMA) organization will present the first African Music Awards.

Aimed at promoting the diverse and rich African culture through music, it will be televised to over 10 million viewers worldwide with performances from the Continent’s giants. The AMA organizers are making sure no stones are left unturned  as they strive to make the event a night to top all nights and use the award show to raise funds for the HIV/AIDS orphans in Africa.

‘Madman’ Sweeps Ghana Music Awards

Even tough Ghana’s young hip-hop genre popularly known as hip-life suffered a tumble in the past year, Kwaw Kesse was able to steal the big prize at the Ghana Music Awards by winning the award for Artist of the Year. Kwaw Kesse had been the most outstanding artist of the past year. His unique showmanship as a madman who can turn up on stage dressed as anything or anyone had fans screaming ‘Abodam’ (craziness) all over the country. Kwaw Kesse won four awards on the night but gospel music was the biggest winner with Album of the year going to Ohemaa Mercy and Song of the Year going to Lenny Apkadie.
