Benin native and star of “Blood Diamond” and his partner, Kimora Lee, have  finally let the world see their first child together. Baby Kenzo, who was  born on  Saturday May 30th  and weighed 8 pounds, had his first photo shoot in OK Magazine with his parents and his half sisters, Aoki and Ming Lee (from a previous marriage to mogul Russel Simmons).

What’s in a Name – Benin to Shed ‘The Squirrels’ Tag?

In English, the nickname of the Benin national team, “Les Ecureuils,” translates into “The Squirrels.” Unfortunately, the country’s sports ministry has decided it is not fearsome enough. Really? Sports minister Ganiou Soglo has suggested a more intimidating name – the “Emerging Panthers.” Please forgive my pessimism, but the what?? “The Panthers” moniker could work fine since panthers are agile, stealthy, fast, and sometimes overlooked — similar traits of Benin’s pattern of play on the field — but by putting “Emerging” in there, a seemingly dominant name seems so trivial. Yes, trivial.

Benin’s Sessegnon Joins PSG

French Ligue Un club Paris St. Germain have signed Beninois midfielder, Stephane Sessegnon, from rivals Le Mans. Sessegnon, 24, scored five goals in 30 league appearances for Le Mans last season, and is a member of the current Benin team bidding for spots at Angola 2010, and South Africa 2010.

Benin born guitarist, Lionel Loueke is one of the most prolific jazz players in the world today. He is a gentle virtuoso with a husky, sincere baritone and a melting falsetto that smoothly trickles down into the souls of his listeners. He has used his remarkable musical experiences to create his own unique sound as a guitarist, composer, and bandleader. Lionel has performed and recorded with almost every great jazz musician of his time, including Kenwood Dennard , Alphonso Jonhson, Dianne Reeves, Carlos Santana, and Gretchen Parlato just to mention a few.
