9ice wins MOBO Award
Nigeria’s Yoruba R&B sensation, Abolore Akande popularly known as 9ice was declared as the ‘Best African Act’ at this year’s Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards. His music is mostly a blend of R&B and Afro-hip hop mixed with the local Yoruba language. According to him, his aim is to become a reference point for Nigerian artists everywhere.
The coveted award ceremony is held annually in the United Kingdom to recognize artists of all race and nationality performing the music of black origin. Kanya King, founder of a former dancer award established the MOBO award in 1995. » Read more…

This has definitely been Estelle’s year and she was rewarded with two MOBO Awards for best UK female, and best song for her hit “American Boy”. Leona Lewis’ won best video for ‘Bleeding Love‘ and best album for the multi-million selling “Spirit“.
A bevy of names showed up for the awards including Taio Cruz, John Legend, Billy Ocean, Djibril Cisse, Grace Jones, Melanie Brown, and Chipmunk. Why, oh why, can’t we be on time? This Day had it’s highly publicized show in Nigeria over the weekend and boasted a roster of great names. Unfortunately most of them were not showcased as the show started 5 hours late. Africans actually waited 5 hours to watch the show….we are incredibly tolerant.
