Viva Africa billed as largest African music festival in the Middle East
The Viva Africa Music Festival is one of the biggest music festival in the Middle East. Slated to take place in Dubai, Viva Africa boasts some very popular African musicians in its roster.
Sarkodie, Camp Mulla, Wizkid, Mi Casa and D’Banj nominated for 2012 MTV European Music Awards
MTV has unveiled the nominees for its annual MYV European Music Awards (EMA) with reigning pop princesses Rihanna and Taylor Swift topping the list with six and five nods respectively. Africa’s hottest contemporary artists could also be in the frame for an EMA award, as Sarkodie, Camp Mulla, Wizkid, Mi Casa and D’Banj fight it out for a slot in the Worldwide Act category, where they will compete against their peers in India and the Middle East (from Monday 15 October). The final Worldwide Act nominees from each region (Europe, Latin America, North America, Asia Pacific and Africa/India/Middle East) will be announced the week of 30 October and the winner will be named at the show in Frankfurt.
Other notable EMA nominees include Lady Gaga, Carly Rae Jepsen, fun., Lana Del Rey, Nicki Minaj, Jay Z and Kanye West, who are each up for three EMA nominations, while Green Day, Gotye, Pitbull, Rita Ora, Flo Rida, Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Jack White and One Direction are up for two awards. MTV will announce EMA performers and presenters at a later date.

Africa’s Best compete for 2012 MOBO Awards
Some of Africa’s finest artistes such as Sarkodie, Amadou & Mariam , Cabo Snoop ,Camp Mulla, D’Banj , Fally Ipupa, Fatoumata Diawara, P-Square , Spoek Mathambo, and The Very Best have been nominated for Best African Act in the 17th edition of the Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards slated for Saturday, 3rd November at the Echo Arena in Liverpool.

Nigeria’s 2face Idibia and Dbanj tied for the BET Award for Best International Act (Africa) at ceremony held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Sunday night. It didn’t come as a surprise as the two were clear favourites for the nod. But perhaps it should have been more competitive with only one winner instead of the two. It makes the African category come out as mere tokenism to keep us happy. Although this was the second time that African artists have been nominated in the BET Awards, this year saw a separate category for the African acts which also included D-Black (Ghana), Fally Ipupa (DR Congo), Angelique Kidjo (Benin), and Teargas (South Africa).
