Ivorian soccer player, Didier Drogba, is one of the eight footballers who have endorsed Product Red’s new partnership with NIKE. Product Red is a brand that licenses partner companies to create products that are sold on the market. A percentage of sales are then donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis in Africa. Participating retailers include Starbucks, Gap, Converse, Apple, Dell and others.

Players Devasted by Fan Deaths During World Cup Qualifier

Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou expressed shock and disbelief at the extent of fan injuries  sustained during a tragedy at yesterday’s soccer match in Cote D’Ivoire against Malawi.  A wall collapsed at game kickoff and 19 fans were killed and 130 injured as they tried to flee.

Drogba in Hot Water Over Coin Incident

It was hardly a surprise to hear that Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has been charged with violent conduct by the Football Association for throwing a coin back into the crowd. Drogba hurled a coin into a section of Burnley supporters following his goal in Chelsea’s shock Carling Cup defeat at Stamford Bridge lat week Wednesday. He has until Monday evening to respond, with a hearing planned for Tuesday. In addition, Drogba, 30, made a single-finger gesture before throwing the coin back following his 27th-minute goal, but there have been no reports of any spectators being injured.

It must really suck to be Didier Drogba at the moment. Just take a look at the past few months in his life: Projected winner of 2007 CAF African Footballer of the Year award, Drogba sent his wife to represent him at the ceremony and the award was subsequently given to Mali’s Fredi Kanoute. Predicted by many so-called pundits to run away with the 2008 African Nations Cup, Drogba and his Elephants were mightily humbled 4-1 in the semi final by eventual champions Egypt, and lost 4-2 to Ghana in the Third-place match.
