Nneka Egbuna takes one for team Africa at the 2009 MOBO awards

This past Saturday Glasgow, SECC became home to numerous artists and fans from  all different walks of life as the Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) awards took place, crowning the 2009 winners. Launched in 1996, the MOBO awards are an embrace to urban music in Europe and one of the most popular nominee categories is the “Best African Act” category which, in the past, has seen the likes of Batman Samini and 9Ice walk away with the award. This year taking one for team Africa was non either than Nigerian-German hip-hop/soul singer and song writer, Nneka Egbuna.

Africa rocks the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee

The Bonnaroo Festival has traditionally hosted jazz, blues, and comedy, but this year, the focus turned to Africa.   With an impressive roster of world-renowned artists, they dedicated one tent solely to the performance of African artists.

The list of artists included, Vieux Farka Toure, Bela Fleck and Toumani Diabate, Toubab Krewe, King Sunny Ade and the African Beats, and Amadou and Mariam. The headliner was none other than Femi Kuti, son of the legendery Fela Kuti.

Mokobe: An Artist With A Heart To Make A Difference

The artist MOKOBE from the group 113, was invited for his first on-the-road US tour. Along side producer Manu Key and DJ Noise, MOKOBE had planned to entertain his US fans in a way they had never seen before. The concert was indeed phenomenal. MOKOBE and crew, who just left Charlotte and Atlanta, landed in Washington last Wednesday . On Friday, November 28th 2008- the day of the concert–he sat down with Jamati.com and a host of other media for an exclusive interview.
