Leila Djansi teams up with Jimmy Jean-Louis on ‘Sinking Sands’

Jean-Louis is set to play the leading man in the new Turning Point Pictures project written and directed by Leila Djansi. The pair had recently teamed up for an African epic “I Sing of a Well,” which garnered 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay and, Best Director from the 2010 Africa Movie Academy Awards announced on Mar. 7.

The rise and rise of Kwab Asamoah

kwabGhanaian born fashion entrepreneur, Kwab (Kwabena) Asamoah continues to make waves in the United States through his Kustom Looks Clothier company. His classic styles, which have been embraced from corporate executives to star athletes and politicians, bring together the traditional art of custom clothes with a taste of modern tailoring. Kustom Look Clothier’s celebrity client list includes news anchor Leon Harris, head of Republicans Michael Steele, Brian Mitchell former NFL Football Athlete, TOP Black CEO Russell Wright to name a few.

The company is five years old now, and although Kwab has no background in fashion or tailoring, his eye for quality and details has seen his success in the industry soaring through the years.  He started the company in his bedroom and was able to move into a studio by the following year until he finally opened his own shop last January in downtown Silver Springs, MD. Ghana shows big love to Haiti

A galaxy of Ghanaian stars lent their support in the fun-packed tribute concert dubbed ‘Ghana Loves Haiti’, for the victims of the Haiti earthquake disaster. Several thousands of Ghanaians gathered at the Accra Conference Center last Saturday to witness world class performances from the best entertainers Ghana has to offer; from music to comedy and from highlife to hiplife all in solidarity of Haiti.

Atlanta-based, Ghana-born Selasi Duse is a musical talent well noticed for incorporating a lot of diversity into his music. Now sporting the Moniker ‘The African Kid’, Selasi traveled all over Africa as a child, setting foot everywhere, from Cameroon to Nigeria, and Malawi to South Africa. His journeys around the world enabled him to pick up different music influences, and he incorporates a lot of elements from these cultures in his work.

Chasing the ghosts in ‘ A Sting in a Tale’

Supermodel/Actress Amanda Annan: Beauty Inside Out

British supermodel Amanda Annan may have entered into modelling by chance but her career so far has been nothing short of amazing. The slinky beauty says she did not choose modelling but modelling chose her. While working part time in a clothing store at age 16, she was head hunted by the world famous Unique Model Management agency. Within two weeks Amanda was shooting her first campaign for Vidal Sassoon. With her beauty and grace, it was not before long she started flying round the world for shoots and runway assignments in London, Paris, Milan and New York.

amanda_00030_web.jpgAmanda’s origin is as interesting as her career: her father is from Ghana and his father moved to Ghana as a child from Brazil in search of his roots; while her mother is from Martinique but grew up in Lagos. However Amanda was adopted at a young age and grew up in London. As the niece of Kofi Annan, she picked up plenty ambassadorial traits which she deploys in a number of charitable organizations like the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), as well raising money for the African Film Commission.
After gracing the covers of magazines like Elle Magazine, Women to Women, Photo Magazine and Fashion News, Amanda has also ventured into new territories including acting and broadcasting among others.  Jamati Online caught up with Amanda to find out more about her career as a model, her desire to help the least fortunate, her ambitions and many other things that make her tick. » Read more…
