‘Man On Ground’ premieres at Toronto Film Festival in September

A026_C008_0607HN-001406‘Man On Ground’, a bold and exacting portrayal of rising xenophobia in South Africa has been selected to have its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival  (TIFF) slated for September 8-18.  The film will be showcased in the Contemporary World Cinema category and will screen on the 12th, 13th and 17th of September.

Inale – An African musical fairytale

Inale is an African fairytale set to music.  Produced by Jeta Amata, it tells the story of Inale, the beautiful daughter of the great King Oche, of the Idoma people in Idomaland, Nigeria. According to tradition, her beloved Odeh must win the wrestling tournament to win her hand in marriage. A stranger appears, who challenges not only the tradition of the village but the strength of Odeh and Inale’s true love. The story of how Odeh works to win his love’s hand-in-marriage back unfolds in this well-filmed movie.

Caroline Chikezie (BBC’s Footballer’s Wives, Aeon Flux, Eragon) is Inale and Hakeem Kae-Kazim (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, Hotel Rwanda, Black Gold) is Odeh, Ini Edo (Battle for Pride, Darkest Day, League of Gentlemen) is Omada, Mbong Amata (Amazing Grace, Black Gold) is Keke, Dede Mabiaku (Black Gold) is King Oche.

Nollywood stakes its claim in Hollywood

Actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim was joined by Hollywood Celebrities for the “4th Annual Nollywood Convention’s VIP Banquet”.  African actors Caroine Chikezie, Amanda Annan, Raz Adoti joined Hakeem to support this red carpet event for one of the biggest film industries in the world.

Attendees enjoyed Nigerian delicacies, a crowd stopping perfomance by soul singer “Sammie Jay”, Nollywood Films which were followed by Nigerian music.  Also enjoying the evening were Alice Amter (The Big Bang Theory), Treva Etienne (Terminator Salvation), Ed Gale (Howard The Duck) and Julio Hanson (Angels and Demonds).
The banquet was a culmination of a 3-day Nollywood Convention at the Palomar Hotel in Westwood to raise awareness of the Nollywood industry to Hollywood. The Nollywood Foundation’s president, Professor Sylvester Ogbechie, shared that the Nigerian film industry has grown rapidly to become one of the largest film producing industries in the world.
