Kae Sun out with ‘Lion On a Leash’
Canada-based Ghana-born singer/songwriter/poet, Kae Sun’s much anticipated album; ‘Lion on a Leash’ has finally been released through Urbnet/Fontana North. The album release was marked with a release party on October 6th at Lula Lounge, Toronto and this would be followed by a Hamilton album release Concert October 15th at The Casbah.
Kae Sun Signs to Urbnet Records
Ontario based Ghanaian singer/songwriter/poet Kae Sun has inked a licensing deal with Toronto’s venerable alternative and hip-hop label, Urbnet Records. Urbnet is home to Moka Only, Grand Analog and The Carps, among others. The agreement will see Kae Sun release his debut full-length album, ‘Lion on a Leash’ through Urbnet on August 25th 2009.
‘Lion on a Leash’ marks a change of direction with Kae Sun. In this set, Kae Sun turns to a more acoustic, urban-folk influenced sound. Flecks of Afrobeat, spoken word, gospel and hip-hop ebb and flow through Lion on a Leash, but all in all it is a more focused, folk-influenced collection. Emphasis is placed on simple chord progressions and political lyricism, in which Kae Sun discusses the concept of the human condition, from love to greed, injustice to poverty. Lion on the Leash
Kae Sun continues to be one of the most conscious lyricists in today’s popcorn generation of musicians. His music and poetry is inspired by life and filled with the realities of today’s world. He recently made a lo-fi recording of a song on his upcoming record “Lion On A Leash“. The video has been receiving a lot of attention online because of its lyrical content. The video was featured on MySpace for a while and it received very positive responses.

Kae Sun or Kwaku Darko-Mensah is a Ghanaian born singer, songwriter, poet and rapper based in Canada. His art has the ability to rise above current human conditions, creating a sense of consciousness and freedom.
