Washington DC’s African Celebrities
Washington D.C. is famous for it’s politicians and powerplayers, but there is another side to it…a creative side teeming with scores of artists, musicians, models and designers who are meeting incredible success in their respective professions.
Take for example Wale, who has had an incredible ride, landing Lady Gaga on an song BEFORE his first major album. Tabi Bonney is another rapper putting Washington DC on the map with his incredible lyrical skills while honing his design skills with his own clothing line, Bonney Runway. » Read more…
Adiree Fashion Agency: Presents the “Element of Pose Fashion Show”
From the moment I entered the “Park Room” which is the venue where the event was held, I couldn’t help but inhale the success waiting to happen as my eyes partook of the beauty that surrounded me. From the classiness and the boldness of the venue, to the diversity I noticed from those present who, like me, could barely wait for the moment of truth as the excitement of the show built up.
Weekend Buzz
We haven’t heard anything about Estelle for a while. She has been a little under the weather. Maybe she was still shaken up by the fact that she was in the same area where Dolla got shot. Anyway, she is none the worse for wear, and busy marketing herself in true Estelle style. She performed at the Museum of Modern Art, helped H&M highlight Fashion Against AIDS, and performed at the Grammy Celebration Concert Tour. Yup, she’s back!
Rapper, Wale, performed at the Sway and .Tel Pre Movie Awards Celebration and Korto Momolu helped aspiring designers realize their dreams at the 1st Annual African Fashion Designer’s Competiton. Alek Wek looked fabulous in yellow but was sporting an orange cast at the 2009 Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic. Seal was in Turkey at the Mardan Palace Hotel in Antalya, Turkey to perform at the grand opening. Overall, it was not too hectic a weekend. Let’s see what next weekend brings.

Korto Momolu to RIP The Runway
Korto Momolu was one of the most talented designers on Project Runway, Season Fiv e and I was miffed that she didn’t win. But, as with all other reality shows, the judges just don’t get it right, but the rest of the world does.
Korto received a presidential commission from Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf to design a gown, and requests from celebrities have been pouring in non-stop as well. Her dream one day is to design for Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama. She is most proud of the fact that her home town of Little Rock, Arkansas, officially declared November 13, 2008, as “Korto Momolu-Briggs” Day; she served as the city’s Grand Marshall at the Holiday Parade. » Read more…
