Liya Kebede does Photo Shoot in Mali

Liya Kebede was spotted in Mali doing a spread for Vogue Magazine. Titled “From Here to Timbuktu”, the shoot seems to be opening up the discussions, once again, about using black models in the otherwise blandly pale landscape of modeling. It also raises the question about whether the people that are in the shoot with her will be getting paid for their part in the shoot, after all, Vogue will be making money off the pictures. According to AOL Black Voices, Ethiopian supermodel Liya Kebede has been tapped to play Somali model Waris Dirie in Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey of a Desert Nomad, a film based on Dirie’s successful autobiography about her experience with female circumcision. (RED)’s primary objective is to engage the private sector in raising awareness and money for the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.
