D’Banj Rules the MAMAs in Abuja

As expected, the maiden edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) exploded live on Saturday 22 November 2008 at The Velodrome in Abuja, Nigeria.  The ‘Koko Master’ D’banj was the biggest winner of the night with three MAMA ‘Golden Microphones’ for Best Male, Artist of the Year, and Listener’s Choice.  Kenya’s most sought after female artist, Wahu, took home Best Female.  Best Video went to Ikechukwu from Nigeria for his video – ‘Wind Am Well’, while Alicia Keys won the honors in Best R&B.

Road to the MAMAs

Mandela’s 90th Birthday Music Concert

Mandela’s 90th birthday is slated to be a huge celebration with a concert that will include some of the hottest names in African music. Among the celebrities scheduled to perform include 9ice, Papa Wemba, Suzanna Owiyo, Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mabuze, Loyiso, Kurt Darren, the Soweto Gospel Choir, the Aids orphan choir, The Children of Agape, and Emmanuel Jal.
