Adebayor and Egypt rule African football
Togolese national player and Arsenal striker, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor had been voted as the CAF African Player of the Year 2008 at the Awards Gala on Tuesday night in Lagos, Nigeria.
CAF names Africa’s finest 11
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named its top 11 players in Africa. Boasting of some of the finest footballers in the world, this list certainly would send shivers down the spine of any football team in the world. Its truly unfortunate that we cannot have such a strong team to represent us in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Essien encourages young footballers
Some of the brightest young footballers in Ghana will have the chance to shine at the NIKE sponsored Premier Cup Ghana Country Finals which commences on Friday December 12 at the Dawu Sports Stadium, in the Eastern Region of the country.
The competition, hosted by Right to Dream Academy, brings together six of the best under-15 football teams in the country to fight for the chance to become national champions. In June 2009, the winners will travel to the Netherlands and represent Ghana in a playoff against national champions from Egypt, Angola and Algeria in the Premier Cup Africa Qualifications. The Africa Champions will then proceed to the MUPC World Finals next summer. » Read more…
CAF Announce Five Man List for Top Prize
Four English-based players have been nominated for the 2008 African Footballer of the Year award. However, there is no place on the nominations list for last year’s winner Frederic Kanoute of Mali.
Mensah Signs For Lyon
Seven-time Ligue 1 defending champions, Olympique Lyonnais, have completed the $13.2 million transfer of Rennes central defender John Mensah. The Ghana captain claims to have turned down offers to play in the English Premier League with Portsmouth and Wigan. “I had a few offers, mostly from English clubs but I opted for Lyon on the insistence of my agent,” remarked Mensah at his unveiling.

Charity Match to feature Great African Soccer Players
Sevilla FC’s Malian international striker, Frederic Kanoute, in association with the United Nations Agency for Children (UNICEF), will sponsor a match at the Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville to raise funds to fight infant mortality in Africa.
