Nameless, MI Sweep Awards at MAMAs with Zain
Kenya’s Nameless was a big winner in this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain. He walked away with the Best Listener’s Choice award and Best Male award. Nigeria’s M.I. walked away with the Best New Act and Best Hip Hop awards. Ghana’s Samini won the Best Performer award.

MTV Africa Music Award Nominees Announced
Well, the tension is building as we move closer to the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain. The nominees have been listed and it looks like it is going to be a hotly contested race to the award podium. The nominees are some of the hottest acts in Africa today, recognized internationally, and making a larger name for themselves every year.

Tay Grin In UK to Promote New Album
Malawian hip-hop sensation, Tay Grin’s music mesmerised many Malawians who gathered at London’s Club Afrique last Friday and Saturday, according to the rapper.
Grin, who missed out on Malawi’s Big Brother Africa II’s (BBA II) representative, CODE Sangala’s Kapirintiya launch of the Tradistic Soul album (attended the same evening at the Fresh Cultural Center in Blantyre, Malawi. It was attended by two other BBA II representatives–Bertha and Maxwell), is in the UK to promote his new album that launches in Blantyre on August 7. He told the BBC Network Africa on Tuesday that he respected the way the fans responded to his two shows in the UK.
MTV Makes a Last Call for Music Videos for 2009 MAMA with Zain
Zain Kenya, with participation from MTV Networks Africa, held an informal workshop at The Loft in Nairobi to give the low down on the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA with Zain), to be held 10 October at Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani, Nairobi.
Warner Brothers Fights HIV/AIDS
There is a great project that is being used in Kenya to combat the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus. The project, called the HIV Free Generation, is a game that children can play to learn how to implement positive behaviors and educate on HIV/AIDS.
Samini brings the heat to 15 cities beginning with New York
Ghana’s rising reggae/dancehall star, Samini recently shared the stage with several international stars at the 2009 Bob Marley Fest in Atlanta, and is currently preparing to kick-start his first major US concert for the Ghanaian community.
Samini digs into his roots on third album
On his sophomore effort, he changed his name from Batman to Samini to carve a true African identity for himself as well as to reflect his coming of age as a musician. As if Samini wasn’t true to his roots enough, he digs even deeper into his roots on his upcoming third album, ‘Dagarti’.
The 21-track album explores the music and culture of the people of Dagarti in the northern part of Ghana, where Samini originally hails from. Samini’s modern take on the traditions of his people results in a masterful artistry especially on his title track, ‘Dagarti’. ‘The concept behind this album is driving the masses to know their roots. ‘Madman’ Sweeps Ghana Music Awards
Even tough Ghana’s young hip-hop genre popularly known as hip-life suffered a tumble in the past year, Kwaw Kesse was able to steal the big prize at the Ghana Music Awards by winning the award for Artist of the Year. Kwaw Kesse had been the most outstanding artist of the past year. His unique showmanship as a madman who can turn up on stage dressed as anything or anyone had fans screaming ‘Abodam’ (craziness) all over the country. Kwaw Kesse won four awards on the night but gospel music was the biggest winner with Album of the year going to Ohemaa Mercy and Song of the Year going to Lenny Apkadie.
Ja Rule promises to thrill Ghanaian fans
New York rapper, Ja Rule will join Nigerian R&B duo P-Square and Kenya’s hottest contemporary artist, Nameless in thrilling music lovers at the upcoming 2008 Ghana Music Awards Festival in Accra. The three-day festival starts with the Ghana Music Awards Gala Night on April 23. This will be a ceremony to honour deserving artists, producers, distributors, instrumentalists, video directors and other industry player for their contributions in the year under review.
