Music meets Football at CAF Awards

Written by Ameyaw Debrah | February 11, 2009 | Leave a Comment

ycc.jpgThe 2008 Glo CAF Awards held in Lagos, Nigeria Tuesday, was a marriage between some of the best footballers in Africa and some top-notch African musicians. The glitzy award ceremony hosted by Christopher Bongo and Bimbo Oloyede was not all about honoring the best footballers and teams on the continent; it was splashed with delightful performances by great African musicians like Yvonne Chaka Chaka of South Africa, King Mensah of Togo and the amazing Yossou N’ Dour.

Nigeria’s dynamic R&B duo P-Square, Ishmael from South Africa and a host of other musicians also joined the train to put some life into the otherwise boring ceremony filled with long speeches and technical hitches. The First Annual African Music Awards

Written by Prudence Chauke | November 25, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Musically speaking, 2008 has been a year full of firsts; first it was the MTV African Music Awards, which was a big success, and, in a couple of weeks, live in London on December 27 2008, the African Music Awards (AMA) organization will present the first African Music Awards.

Aimed at promoting the diverse and rich African culture through music, it will be televised to over 10 million viewers worldwide with performances from the Continent’s giants. The AMA organizers are making sure no stones are left unturned  as they strive to make the event a night to top all nights and use the award show to raise funds for the HIV/AIDS orphans in Africa. » Read more…

The ROAD TO MAMA Leads to Lagos with performances from THE GAME’, D’BANJ, 9ICE, SAMINI & NAETO C

Written by Lisa Amenya | November 17, 2008 | Leave a Comment

The excitement continues to build on the Road to the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). Last week The Game and a line-up of MAMA nominees gave performances that had fans going crazy in Kinshaha. After hours spent just trying to get clearance from customs to enter the city, I’m told that The Game gave it everything he had and the crowed went wild shouting, “The Game, The Game, we love The Game”.

P-Sqaure – The Unstoppable Duo!

Written by Prudence Chauke | October 17, 2008 | Leave a Comment

P-Square and AkonIt’s no secret that one of the biggest influential artists in the Naija entertainment industry right now is the electrifying duo, P-Square. Recently they have scooped numerous awards at the Channel O Spirit Of Africa Music Awards and been nominated for the best African act at the MOBO awards.

This shows that P-Square is making its mark in the industry with their fun and club-banging sounds. Although there has been an argument about whether they are a  good representation of African music or just American-wannabes, I think we need to give props where they are due. » Read more…
