Lessons in K’sonology
Music is a powerful tool that can be used to impact lives positively; and upcoming singer K’son hopes to use his ‘message songs’ to do just that. Born Kofi Hanson-Asiedu in Ghana, he relocated to the United Kingdom to live with his mother at the age of 8.
Blessed with a squeaky clean and sweet voice, music and singing came naturally to K’son. He began by singing chart songs in the playground and occasionally being asked to sing in front of class. However, he knew he had a future in music when he was once singing at his older sister’s house and heard the approving “ooh you can sing you know!” from his sister. Since then, he has never looked back since. » Read more…

Ghana’s rising reggae/dancehall star, Samini recently shared the stage with several international stars at the 2009 Bob Marley Fest in Atlanta, and is currently preparing to kick-start his first major US concert for the Ghanaian community.

R2Bees, Ready To Blow
R2Bees is best described as an urban hip-hop/hiplife collective fronted by Faisal Hakeem (Paedae da Pralem) and Rashid Mugeez (Mugeez). They started off as Camp Yard some 10 years ago, when a group of like-minded schoolmates with a common interest in the hip-hop movement of the 90s decided to test their skills against each other and ended up creating some original materials of their own. They have been on the underground since and, today, they rule Ghana’s hip-hop scene with two singles off their forthcoming debut album, ‘Da Revolution’.
The word R2Bees comes from the group’s mantra which is ‘refuse to be broke’, which has become some form of inspiration for the youth of Tema, the community where they grew up. With songs like ‘I dey Mad’ and ‘Yawa Girls’ making the rotation on Channel O, MTV Base and, soon, on Trace Africa; and the group’s desire to take on Africa, R2Bees are certainly one of the groups to watch out for in Africa this year. » Read more…

The ROAD TO MAMA Leads to Lagos with performances from THE GAME’, D’BANJ, 9ICE, SAMINI & NAETO C
The excitement continues to build on the Road to the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). Last week The Game and a line-up of MAMA nominees gave performances that had fans going crazy in Kinshaha. After hours spent just trying to get clearance from customs to enter the city, I’m told that The Game gave it everything he had and the crowed went wild shouting, “The Game, The Game, we love The Game”.
