Weekend Buzz
We haven’t heard anything about Estelle for a while. She has been a little under the weather. Maybe she was still shaken up by the fact that she was in the same area where Dolla got shot. Anyway, she is none the worse for wear, and busy marketing herself in true Estelle style. She performed at the Museum of Modern Art, helped H&M highlight Fashion Against AIDS, and performed at the Grammy Celebration Concert Tour. Yup, she’s back!
Rapper, Wale, performed at the Sway and .Tel Pre Movie Awards Celebration and Korto Momolu helped aspiring designers realize their dreams at the 1st Annual African Fashion Designer’s Competiton. Alek Wek looked fabulous in yellow but was sporting an orange cast at the 2009 Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic. Seal was in Turkey at the Mardan Palace Hotel in Antalya, Turkey to perform at the grand opening. Overall, it was not too hectic a weekend. Let’s see what next weekend brings.

There are many celebrities that have shown up at the Tribeca Film Festival to celebrate film. Others were busy entertaining in their different fields, around the world.
Seal brought the house down at Radio City Music Hall in his inimitable style. Suzanne ‘Africa’ Engo took some time out to catch a movie screening, while Mel B. lent her celebrity status to the Invisible Children organization to draw attention to the abduction of children in Uganda to force into the army. Nominees for 40th NAACP Image Awards Unveiled
The nominees for the 40th NAACP Image Awards were announced on January 7th during a press conference held in Beverly Hills, California. Among those to be honored is Dr. Wangari Maathai, who will be presented with the Chairman’s Award, along with her fellow Nobel laureate, former U.S. Vice President Al Gore. Africa was also represented in the entertainment categories, were various Africans were nominated in recognition of their achievements and performances in the arts, including Estelle, Sophie Okonedo, and Seal.

Prince William and Prince Harry exercised their passion for a good cause by racing in the Enduro Africa 2008. This race raises money for Unicef, Sentebale, and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
Estelle was at it again with an appearance at Love Sessions in Los Angeles, California. The Africa Rising Festival in London was a big draw and went well. Colin Powell got on stage with Olu Maintain and performed (yes, he did…just look at the picture).
