Zainab Sheriff, Sierra Leone’s leggy beauty

Written by Shirlene Alusa-Brown | September 26, 2012 | Leave a Comment

Zainab Sheriff is a Sierra Leone fashion model, currently based in Istanbul Turkey.

Zainab started her modeling career at age 14 in the local area of Freetown Sierra Leone. She relocated to Istanbul Turkey in 2006, following her boyfriend (now husband), where she soon caught the eye of several high-end fashion designers. In an interview with Because I Am Fabulous, she detailed how some agencies were initially reluctant to work with her since there were ‘…not many black people in Turkey’, so therefore the demand for black models would not be high. Her big break came when she worked at a golden fair and subsequently met Cengiz Abazoglu, one of Turkey’s biggest designers.  Through her work with him, she was exposed to other designers (Cemil Ipekci, Arzu Kaprol, Christian Loboutin) who included her on their runway rosters.

Her career portfolio includes extensive runway shows, features in top magazines including Elle, Marie Claire, and Vogue.  Some of you may remember her as a contestant in the  2012 Big Brother Africa TV Reality Show.  She unfortunately didn’t make it to the final for controversial reasons.
