A.C Milan Signs Oguchi Onyewu

Oguchi Onyewu, fondly called ‘Gooch’ by fans, signed a three-year contract with A.C. Milan and will be playing as a centerback.  He had garnered quite a bit of interest during his performance in the Confederations Cup in South Africa and several European clubs had shown a marked interest. Onyewu has a European Union passport as he has been playing for four seasons in Belgium for Standard Liege.

Quest for Dubai Sevens: Kenya Beats South Africa

South Africa’s team were the favorites and the tournament leaders.  Kenya has not really considered as a team with a chance against them.  So what happened?  Kenya was determined to show up strong and increase their chances of making it to the finals in Dubai. They rallied hard and beat them 22-17, ensuring their place in the quarter finals.  Kenya will play against Wales on Friday in an attempt to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Dubai Sevens Rugby World Cup

Kenya, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa,  will each have a team at the Dubai Sevens Rugby World Cup scheduled for March 2009 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  Kenya, Tunisia and Zimbabwe were Africa qualifiers and South Africa was an automatic qualifier. Zimbabwe beat Namibia 29-10 and Kenya beat Tunisia 22-12 in the semi finals. Kenya beat Zimbabwe 26-14 to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.  Tunisia beat Namibia, 26-12 for the final spot at the Rugby World Cup.

‘I want to sit on a mountain top and write’- Kojo Baffoe

n730081604_1477849_5515.jpg“My poetry is deep…so deep it echoes words infinitely…so deep it drowns simple minds in tears…so deep it solves Africa’s problems in one verse…so deep it transcends racism and breaks down sexism.” This is how Kojo Baffoe, a dynamic African writer/poet and media consultant chooses to define his work in ‘The power of po’ taken from his book, ‘Voices in My Head – a collection of poetry’.

Born in Munich, Germany to a Ghanaian father and German mother, Kojo spent his formative years on the streets of Maseru, Lesotho; spent some time in Germany to get in touch with his Germanic roots; and ended up receiving his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The well-travelled and vastly knowledgeable Kojo has since had varied working experiences in a number of sectors including IT, fashion and cosmetics, and publishing. However, Kojo is more famed for his amazing gift of writing, whether as a poet or a writer of lifestyle issues and popular culture. He currently lives with his lovely wife and son in Johannesburg, where he is often referred to as ‘the love poet’. Blatter Dismisses World Cup 2010 ‘Plan B’

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has dismissed ditching South Africa as 2010 World Cup hosts saying there is ”no Plan B.”  Blatter had revealed earlier this year that FIFA had put together contingency plans in light of South Africa’s perceived ill-preparation, causing a flurry of speculation about possible alternative hosts — including Germany, hosts of the last World Cup finals in 2006.
