Samini digs into his roots on third album

saminiOn his sophomore effort, he changed his name from Batman to Samini to carve a true African identity for himself as well as to reflect his coming of age as a musician. As if Samini wasn’t true to his roots enough, he digs even deeper into his roots on his upcoming third album, ‘Dagarti’.

The 21-track album explores the music and culture of the people of Dagarti in the northern part of Ghana, where Samini originally hails from. Samini’s modern take on the traditions of his people results in a masterful artistry especially on his title track, ‘Dagarti’. ‘The concept behind this album is driving the masses to know their roots. Tyler Perry unveiled his new Motion Picture and Television Studio and Gelila Bekele (his girlfriend) was on hand to help him celebrate it. Yes, another African-meets-American love story! Boris Kodjoe, who has been in several of Tyler’s films, was also there with his wife Nicole Ari Parker.

Sway a.k.a. Derek Andrew Safo celebrated the release of Blak Twang’s (Tony Olabode) new album, SfX  in London. In the meantime, Akon was rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous (the Buffets, to be specific), at a Peter Buffet performance.  Estelle and Gym Class Heroes met with Grammy-U members in Baltimore, Maryland to discuss the business of music. After all the brought us smash hits like ‘Beautiful Girl’ and ‘Lean Back’ respectively. Haha! The two artists in Ghana for a one of a kind concert dubbed “State of the Republic Concert” and are billed to perform on Saturday July 19 at the Accra International Conference Centre.
