East Africa to watch Bond movie first
Heineken, a key global partner of the James Bond franchise, will deliver the Bond experience to its East African consumers by simultaneously bringing the premiere events of the movie, Skyfall, on October 25 at IMAX in Kenya, Milimani City in Tanzania and Oasis in Uganda, a week ahead of the global release of the movie.

AND1 is a streetball group that is made up of basketball players who play with flair and flourish. Their style has drawn both criticism and accolades, and even had them compared to the Harlem Globetrotters.
First Annual East African Music Awards highlight East African genres and talent
The first annual East Africa Music Awards (EMAs) was created to celebrate the different genres of music of the East African region, and reward homegrown talent. The genres that will be recognized include: Rhumba, Contemporary Gospel, Hip Hop, and Taarab, among many others. The ceremony celebrates music from the entire East African region: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Skateboarding becoming big in East Africa
When we think of skateboarding, we don’t often think of Africans doing it. Uganda, however, has a Skateboard Union (the Uganda Skateboard Union )that was formed when two friends got together and built a skatepark. Jackson Mubiru (Uganda) and Shael Swart (South Africa) kicked it off with some ramps that they built after collecting materials for it. Jackson’s (Jack to everyone) family donated some land toward the cause and a local department store donated two skateboards. Shael had to leave after he completed high school, but taught the volunteers the basics of skateboarding.

Bongo Barbershop – tracing the roots of hip hop from Diaspora to Africa
Producer Charlie Ahearn has come up with a documentary that features Balozi a.k.a. Dola Soul, an original member of the group Deplowmatz. Balozi grew up in Nigeria for a little while before moving to the UK and then moving back to Tanzania. It was here that he got involved with rap and was a founding member of the Deplowmatz, performing as Dola Soul.

Millen Magese – Tanzania’s Super Model
Millen Magese is a Tanzanian Supermodel who was discovered when she appeared on the cover of Kenya Cosmopolitan magazine. This launched her into the limelight and on several catwalks and fashion shows.
She moved to South Africa where she signed up with Ice Model Management. Don’t let her looks fool you. Before she became a model, she was studying to be a lawyer, but entered, and won, the Miss Tanzania beauty pageant in 2001.
