Dawn Okoro – Power
I recently went to the Three Peas Art Lounge in Chicago to see Dawn Okoro’s exhibition entitled Power. According to gallery curator Maya Camille, the exhibition is about powerful yet feminine black women like the First Lady. It shows us what we are and what we are not.
The gallery itself was a small, intimate space with couches and chairs in the front and a bar displaying several different kinds of wines. The show was attended mostly by easy-going, black professionals chatting against the up-beat yet relaxing music playing smoothly through the overhead speakers. » Read more…

Liya Kebede was spotted in Mali doing a spread for Vogue Magazine. Titled “From Here to Timbuktu”, the shoot seems to be opening up the discussions, once again, about using black models in the otherwise blandly pale landscape of modeling. It also raises the question about whether the people that are in the shoot with her will be getting paid for their part in the shoot, after all, Vogue will be making money off the pictures. My guess is that they don’t get a cent…..sigh! » Read more…
