Zain Kenya, with participation from MTV Networks Africa, held an informal workshop at The Loft in Nairobi to give the low down on the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA with Zain), to be held 10 October at Indoor Arena, Moi International Sports Complex, Kasarani, Nairobi.
Warner Brothers Fights HIV/AIDS
There is a great project that is being used in Kenya to combat the spread of the HIV/AIDS virus. The project, called the HIV Free Generation, is a game that children can play to learn how to implement positive behaviors and educate on HIV/AIDS.
Inside Track on the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain
There are lots of rumors and speculation following media reception invites circulated late last week by MTV Networks Africa, and leading mobile phone operator, Zain. Selected individuals representing government, tourism, media and entertainment in Kenya, will attend a much anticipated, exclusive, media reception on Wednesday 15 April at the Blue Times Lounge in Nairobi, where its promised that “the Date, City and Venue for this year’s glittering ceremony,” the 2009 MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA), will be revealed.
The First Annual African Music Awards
Musically speaking, 2008 has been a year full of firsts; first it was the MTV African Music Awards, which was a big success, and, in a couple of weeks, live in London on December 27 2008, the African Music Awards (AMA) organization will present the first African Music Awards.
Aimed at promoting the diverse and rich African culture through music, it will be televised to over 10 million viewers worldwide with performances from the Continent’s giants. Weekend Buzz
Busy, busy, busy, is what this weekend has been. There were several artists in Africa lending their name to concerts and award shows. Eve and Wyclef were in Ghana, as was Mario.
Liya Kebede showed up at two benefits for a good cause. Edi Gathegi is riding high on the excitement that his new movie, “Twilight‘, is generating. He was also at the GQ ‘Men of the Year’ party. Flo Rida was in Abuja, Nigeria for the MTV Africa Music Awards. Several celebrities received their awards or performed, including, Wahu, Alicia Keys, D’Banj, Seun Kuti, Kelly Rowland, The Game, and Jay-Jay Okocha.
D’Banj Rules the MAMAs in Abuja
As expected, the maiden edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA) exploded live on Saturday 22 November 2008 at The Velodrome in Abuja, Nigeria. The ‘Koko Master’ D’banj was the biggest winner of the night with three MAMA ‘Golden Microphones’ for Best Male, Artist of the Year, and Listener’s Choice. Kenya’s most sought after female artist, Wahu, took home Best Female. Best Video went to Ikechukwu from Nigeria for his video – ‘Wind Am Well’, while Alicia Keys won the honors in Best R&B.
The ROAD TO MAMA Leads to Lagos with performances from THE GAME’, D’BANJ, 9ICE, SAMINI & NAETO C
The excitement continues to build on the Road to the MTV Africa Music Awards with Zain (MAMA). Last week The Game and a line-up of MAMA nominees gave performances that had fans going crazy in Kinshaha. After hours spent just trying to get clearance from customs to enter the city, I’m told that The Game gave it everything he had and the crowed went wild shouting, “The Game, The Game, we love The Game”.
Kenya Premiere Of Music Video For ‘Little Things You Do’
Thursday 30 Oct 2008 was the Kenya premier of ‘Little Things You Do,’ a first ever music and video collaboration between Kenya’s sexy-sweet Wahu and Uganda’s sizzling, Bobbi Wine. Created by a team of four energetic young video practitioners mentored by US director, Melina Matsoukis, the smoking hot video is the latest output from the ‘MTV Making the Video Challenge with Shell‘.
